Bungie kicks off Destiny 2 Renegades sandbox previews with HUD tweaks, “New Gear” changes, and an ammo economy overhaul

Bungie’s first Renegades sandbox preview details HUD buff priority, “New Gear” tuning, standardized Disorient, and big ammo economy updates ahead of the December 2 launch.

Bungie has posted the first of three Dev Insights covering Destiny 2: Renegades’ sandbox changes, starting with weapons and global updates (armor and abilities will follow in the next two posts). The studio says more previews are rolling out weekly before Renegades launches on December 2.

On the global side, buffs on the left side of your HUD will now prioritize more sensibly, so key effects aren’t buried by less-important ones. The “New Gear” bonus is being tuned: weapon damage is a flat 5%, incoming damage reduction from New Gear armor can reach 10% (2% per piece), all Exotics count as New Gear, and the “Featured Exotics” Collections section is being removed.

Bungie is also standardizing Disorient across perks and mods so it behaves consistently game-wide, with Helm of Saint-14 and Touch of Malice’s Darkness Bolt called out as exceptions. Stasis freeze interactions get fixes and buffs to certain outliers (e.g., Eriana’s Vow and Leviathan’s Breath now deal +10% to frozen targets), while a couple of Primary oddballs still get freeze bonuses.

Destiny 2 Renegades ammo system changes

Support and objective players will have more ways to generate ammo without getting the final blow, ammo-related bugs are getting squashed, and a few weapons/archetypes are having their ammo economies shifted.

  • Ammo scout mods return (helmet): filling the meter spawns a brick for allies; brick size scales with the number of mods you’ve slotted.
  • Assists & teamplay count: ability assists and granting buffs like Radiant/Overshield now add ammo meter progress.
  • Bug fixes: Glaive projectile kills and certain Scavenger interactions (Machine Guns, Lord of Wolves) now behave as intended.
  • Ammo per brick increases: select Exotics (Truth, Heir Apparent, The Colony, The Prospector, DARCI, Salvation’s Grip) and subfamilies (Heavy-Burst Slug Shotguns, Rapid-Fire Shotguns).
  • Ammo per brick reductions: Micro-Missile Pulse Rifles (enhanced bricks).
  • Perk nerfs to ammo generation: Air Trigger, Field Prep, and Envious Arsenal get trimmed now that every point of Ammo Generation matters.
  • Crucible QoL: dropped Special bricks persist for 60 seconds instead of 30.

That’s a lot for week one, and Bungie says more Dev Insights will land weekly up to launch on December 2, when the Star Wars-themed Renegades expansion arrives.
